What is distant projects?

Distant Projects is part studio, part social, part showcase. It's a space for play and experimentation where traditional craft meets new technologies.

'An ambiguous bittersweet nostalgia viewed through the lightness of childish whimsy - these imagined moments have a surprising emotional sincerity'

Artists bio
For over 30 years, Scotty has playfully interrogated the intersections of traditional art and contemporary creativity. His work is thought-provoking and often humorous, thriving on tension and ambiguity. His images are steeped in nostalgia, balancing the bittersweetness of memory and loss with the lightness of childhood whimsy.

Scottys process mirrors the unpredictable nature of life itself — unplanned yet purposeful, fleeting yet profound and all the time governed by chance. Using traditional crafts and techniques alongside photography and digital tools like MidJourney and Photoshop, Scotty creates compositions that are visually surreal yet emotionally sincere, reflecting the paradoxical nature of truth and exploring the concept of authenticity itself.

'Scotty doesn't chase the obvious; his art catches moments that feel like a single page ripped from a book. A story you’ll never quite know. His work pulls you in, making you look again, asking questions you can’t answer.'

The creation process
Every image on this site is a kind of fiction—rooted in nostalgia, shaped by imagination, and built from moments that never actually happened
Nothing is real, they are synthetic memories created by blending traditional crafts such as photography with machine learning and generative artificial intelligence and more.
No two images come together the same way. One thing that remains consistent however is that other artists work will never be used at any stage of the process. Generative technologies can open up incredible creative paths, but never at the cost of our community’s lifeblood —intellectual property.
